It has a Rohloff, so it's a 14 speed. But, look at how your legs would be positioned to pedal. RETARDED...

Oops! You're totally right. I thought that shock looked a little short on the green frame to be a Race Link. Was at Diablo for closing weekend and saw a ~6" SuperCo. Didn't know that they had one, but it was totally a more polished SR6.

YES! Please make a fixie one too.

Although, I did see a photo of one fixed gear that I liked. The rider stickered the front rim to say: "I do it for the hipster p*ssy."

One question Rattbones: Why inverted? It seems for street this is pretty retarded. Misplaced grinds will scrape the lowers and affect bushing wear...especially Al 6061.

Yes, that is true. This bike is hand-made in Canada by bike enthusiasts using American made True Temper Super-Therm chromoly tubing. I'd rather have that than have some random Taiwanese guy/girl involved that cares nothing about the bikes using generic Taiwanese Aluminum.

I have to disagree a bit with the high-tech part though. Single-pivots work extremely well, especially for a DH bike. Brake induced forcings can be mitigated with a floating caliper. It's in the fork, shock, and brakes where I want to see the pinnacle of engineering design. Plus, look at Motorcycles. Single-pivots seem to work quite well for them...

One of Einstein's quotes is quite pertinent here: "Any fool can make something bigger and more complex. It takes a touch of genius and a lot of courage to go in the opposite direction."

No, but you did say: "all the other bikes...are all hyro formed, super high tech and awesome looking."

Which implies that all you care about is how a bike looks...

It's not propaganda, but he's not entirely being accurate in his statement. It's called material properties, and you can look all of these things up if you are truly interested...

Each of these statements is confusing in one way or another.

Per equal volume/cross sectional area:

1.) Steel is stronger than aluminum. The ratio depends on what grade/alloy you are comparing.
2.) By definition of the Modulus of Elasticity: Steel is STIFFER than Aluminum. Again, it depends on which alloy you compare as to what that ratio is. This also makes steel harder to machine, and therefore more expensive to use. Al 6061 cuts like butter...(well, almost)
3.) Steel is heavier than aluminum.
4.) Aluminum is weaker in tension than compression has a much smaller fatigue life. Steel is equally good in compression and tension and has a much longer fatigue life.

So in the end, the engineers/designers weigh these factors and reach a compromise. IMO, steel is the winner, but then again I like custom made bikes and not cheap Taiwanese junk...

I would have to agree with summit...probably a bad batch of tubing. QA/QC in Taiwan isn't that great, coupled with multiple vendors being used to build one assembly.

I drove my DJ into a parking garage the other night. Argyle 409 is fine. Rotates in the head-tube perfectly. Dented the trunk of my Volvo pretty good though... The Thule rack failed well too. A couple of the replaceable parts are shot, but the main tray and the rack itself is fine, along with the bike. Made a damn loud noise though. Thought I was losing the bottom of the car...until I realized that there was a bike on top of the car. Frown

Would be less likely to happen to a non-inverted fork. Not having the arch above the tire really reduces the stiffness. The tube buckled between the two crowns...

Nah, I do modeling at work, and was trying to figure out how the linkage worked. Took 15minutes. If I really cared, I'd do it right and use a rotating non-concentric pivot which is my idea as to how the seat-stay rocker pivot really moves...

Black Dots are Pivots... As you can see, it is a single pivot with a rocker link. A little much IMO for not much benefit.

This linkage is a single-pivot with an extra link to keep things compact.

How the suspension works: The main swing arm is one piece that rotates about the bottom bracket. It has a rocker that pivots about the seatpost and the main swing arm. As the main swing arm goes through it's radius it causes the rocker to rotate clockwise (in this photo) which compresses the shock... I have drawn a quick paint picture that may show this, although it is rather crude...
